Turn your home into a winter wonderland

Turn your home into a winter wonderland

Christmas is a peculiar time; at one end we crave it – the lights, the scenery, the shopping. Then at the other end of the spectrum the season can be a total nightmare – the pressure to pull of the ‘perfect’ Christmas is on and most of the time it comes from our own desire, let alone that of others.

We love Christmas and there isn’t much we enjoy more than decorating our homes and offices for winter. We’ve pulled our top tips together to help you transform your living spaces this winter.

Choose Your Theme

First thing to do is to choose your theme and stick to it. Will you opt for the ice palace of crisp whites, soft greys and pale golds and pinks, or will you head down the cosy cabin route and create yourself a hibernation-worthy hideout?

The Right Stuff
A key style tip for creating the cosiest of Christmas homes is stuff. Bare and minimal do not a wonderland make. Coordinated clutter is key to making your home warm and inviting. From accenting cushions and throws to decorations, ornaments and the Christmas tree itself, filling your home with seasonal goodness will bring the magic of a wintery landscape.

For throws, we love these snowflake and Fair Isle styles – the detailed patterns add interest to plain sofas and bed spreads and the latter offers a vibrant pop of colour. If you want to go for real luxury, then we can’t get enough of this faux-fur throw. It makes us want to be wrapped up on the sofa right now.

Add to your cushion count this Christmas with appliqué styles like the Home Sweet Home, Love Live Laugh and Owl cushions. These ornate styles are perfect for adding texture to your home style.

There are loads of little additions you can also make to add to your theme. Fireplaces, windowsills and other surfaces are prime positions for decorations. display your family photos the festive way with this cute Christmas photo holder or light up the mantle piece with these ornate tealight holders. Don’t forget this time of year is also perfect for getting out aromatic diffusers and scented candles, like this caramel spice diffuser.

Shine A Light
Lighting is probably one of the most synonymous decorative styles for the season. Lighting is an easy way to add warmth to your home, a good lighting scheme can make or break the cosy feel you’re after. There are a couple of routes you can take here – you can use your lighting as a feature and use it add that elegant, ice palace feel, like with this Harriet lamp and its icicle-inspired body, or you can follow the log cabin winter hideout style and go for styles like this quirky knit-print lamp.
